How does a laser work?

The principle of operation of laser hair removal is based on the effect on the hair follicle of a narrowly directed beam of light waves of a specially selected length. Penetrating to a depth of 2-3 mm from the surface of the skin, these waves effect only on the bulb (hair root) and do not affect in any way the rest of the cells of the epidermis.

In the process of laser hair removal, the melanin contained in the hair absorbs the light directed at it (laser flashes), which leads to heating of the hair from the inside and subsequent destruction of the hair follicle and the vessel feeding it.

Under such an effect, the hair soon falls out along with the root painlessly. This effect lasts for several years until the natural restoration of the follicle. All hair in the active growth phase (visible on the skin surface) falls out within 2 weeks after the first treatment. The remaining hairs, which were in an inactive phase at the time of the session or in the process of preparing for growth, are removed during repeated treatments (about 6-10 sessions in total) when they become visible on the surface of the skin and thus are available for exposure to laser light.

Types of laser hair removal

The effectiveness of laser hair removal treatments directly depends on the type and quality of the laser equipment that is applied during the sessions. To date, there are four lasers on the market that differ in wavelength:

Ruby laser (694 nm)
Alexandrite laser (755 nm)
Diode laser (808 nm)
Neodymium laser (1064 nm)

The diode laser (808 nm) is rightfully considered the best, since it focuses the beams to the required penetration depth. When using a diode laser, there is no such heating of the skin as it happens when using other types of lasers, which often leaves burns.

Diode lasers can be successfully used to remove hair of any color (except gray), and on all phototypes of the skin: from pale Scandinavian to dark African.

The principle of operation of a diode laser

The laser beam penetrates directly into the hair and affects the dark pigment melanin contained in them.

Overheating of the surface and intradermal structures or violation of integrity does not occur due to a powerful cooling engine and the minimized pulse length of the laser device (otherwise called a flash). Thus, the patient is protected from the appearance of rashes, wounds or scars.

The laser beam has aseptic and anti-inflammatory properties due to its high flash point. Thus, the negative impact on the patient’s skin is excluded, which cannot be said about the use of such means to get rid of unwanted hair, such as shaving or waxing.

The risk of burns, pain and discomfort is greatly reduced thanks to the powerful sapphire-coated cooling system. The hottest part of the wave is concentrated under the epidermal layer in the hair follicle without touching the skin surface.

The effectiveness of laser hair removal

The effectiveness of laser hair removal has been proven by many years of practice. The most modern and safe laser for this treatment is a diode laser.

After the first hair removal session, at least 20% of the hair follicles on the treated area of the body are destroyed. During further treatments the result is preserved, and every new time at least 15-20% of the hair follicles are destroyed.

The hair removal treatment is repeated until the hair stops growing. The number of necessary treatments and the intervals between them depend on the structure of the patient’s hair. Different parts of the body may require a different number of treatments, but the average course is from 6 to 12 sessions for women and from 8 to 12 for men at an interval of 4-6 weeks.

Preparation for the treatment

In most cases, no special actions are required before the laser hair removal treatment, however, to achieve maximum effect, we recommend following these simple rules:

Do not go to the beach or solarium 2 weeks before the treatment;
Stop pulling out your hair in any way (wax, sugaring, tweezers, mechanical hair removal unit, etc.) 2-4 weeks before the start of the course of laser hair removal;
A day before or on the day of visiting our center, shave your hair with a regular razor, since the laser procedure is performed exclusively on smooth skin;
Clean the skin on the areas of the body where hair removal will be done before the treatment, do not use deodorant, foundation, etc.

During the treatment

The specialist determines your skin phototype and selects the optimal settings of the device.
Then a special cooling gel is put on the skin for maximum comfort during the treatment. The duration of the session on average takes from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the selected area.

After the treatment

After the diode laser hair removal treatment, the skin needs a recovery period, so please:

Refrain from deep peeling of the face if the treatment was performed on it;
Do not undergo hair removal treatment related to the removal of hair with the root (wax, tweezers, sugaring or mechanical hair removal unit);
Avoid sunbathing or going to the solarium for 2 weeks.

Diode laser hair removal is not only an aesthetic beauty and a way to significantly simplify daily body care procedures. hair birthmarks in the treatment area;

disorders of blood coagulation (leukemia);
various forms of diabetes mellitus;
oncological diseases;
the use of hormonal agents and some painkillers (mandatory consultation with the attending physician is required);
