It feels like tingling and light pressure. The specialist sets the needle depth and density by area and sensitivity; the scalp may stay sensitive and slightly red until the end of the day.

Why does hair thin?
Hair does not start thinning suddenly. Usually it is a process that takes months or even years. First, the hairline recedes slightly at the temples. Later the hair becomes finer and loses density, and the scalp shows more and more on the crown. Many men only become concerned when so much hair has been lost that keeping it is already much harder. Yet the most important question is not how much hair you have already lost, but how much you can still keep. The most common cause is androgenetic alopecia, also called male pattern baldness. It is driven by genetics and by the sensitivity of hair follicles to the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT acts on sensitive hair follicles, so over time: the hair growth phase gets shorter; each new hair grows thinner and shorter; hair density gradually decreases; as the process advances, some follicles stop producing visible hair. Important: this does not necessarily mean there is too much testosterone in the body. Most often the issue is an inherited sensitivity of hair follicles to DHT. Hair loss is not always genetic. It can also be caused by health problems, stress, nutritional deficiencies or scalp conditions.
When should you take action?
The best time is when you notice the first signs of thinning, not when bald patches have already formed. Why? Because a thinning hair often means that the follicle is still working, but its activity is weakening. While the follicle stays active, well-chosen care has a better chance of improving hair growth and preserving its density.
How can microneedling scalp therapy help?
Microneedling is a scalp stimulation procedure in which a special device creates many controlled micro-channels. These micro-channels trigger the skin’s natural repair response. What happens in the scalp? 1. Tissue stimulation. The micro-punctures activate the skin’s natural healing and regeneration mechanisms. 2. Activation of growth signals. During healing, various signalling substances are released that take part in tissue renewal. 3. Support for hair growth. There is evidence that microneedling, especially combined with certain hair loss management methods, can help improve hair density and growth. 4. Extra support for follicles. Is one procedure enough?
No. The hair growth cycle takes months, so it takes time to assess the results. Microneedling is usually done as a course; its length and the intervals between procedures are set individually. The goal is not a short-term cosmetic effect but consistent care of the hair’s condition.
What if you have already had a hair transplant?
A hair transplant can restore density in thinned areas, but there is one important point. A transplant does not stop the remaining natural hair from thinning. This means the transplanted hair can grow while the neighbouring, genetically sensitive hair keeps getting thinner. That is why even after a transplant you may need a long-term hair loss management plan.
